The Zombie is back - with two channels

Presenting the BanTamP XL Zombie II: This updated version of Joyo's compact lunchbox amplifier head delivers the high-gain sound associated with many legendary American amps while adding a second channel. The two channels each feature independent controls for volume, tone, and gain and can be selected using the "Clean/OD" switch on the front or via the included footswitch (the connection for which is located on the rear panel). The Joyo BanTamP XL Zombie II additionally replaces the original model's 3.5mm headphone output with a much more practical 6.35mm jack while retaining the original's Bluetooth connectivity and effects loop to allow the player to integrate their favourite pedals. And of course the most important thing has remained: The combination of a preamp based around a 12AX7 tube combined with a 20W class-D power stage, which delivers that typical "Californian" sound with enough volume even for gigs.

It's no one-trick pony

Despite having gained an extra 100g compared to its predecessor, this "Mark II" version of the Joyo BanTamP XL Zombie still tips the scales at just 1.3kg and offers significantly greater sonic flexibility thanks to its two-channel design, which covers everything from warm clean sounds from the first channel through to overdrive with plenty of gain on tap from the second. The Zombie II relies on a single tone control per channel for its EQ settings, but these controls are highly sensitive and even the smallest adjustment will make an audible difference. And best of all, the footswitching option makes the Joyo BanTamP XL Zombie II a fully-fledged two-channel amplifier that is great for rehearsals and even gigs - where it will become quickly apparent that 20 watts of output power are much more than they seem on paper.

US high-gain sounds on a budget

The Joyo BanTamP XL Zombie II's affordable price of course makes it an interesting option for those who are new to the electric guitar and looking for a versatile and easy-to-use amplifier that delivers both authentic tube tone and high gain reserves. However, this updated lunchbox head is also sure to find favour with more advanced players thanks to its authentic "Californian"-style sound and especially the added flexibility provided by its new two-channel design. And it goes without saying that the Joyo BanTamP XL Zombie II's compact dimensions and light weight make it extremely easy to transport, so the "heavy-duty" gear can stay at home.

About Joyo

Chinese manufacturer Joyo is focused particularly on guitar amplifiers and effects - and produces an extraordinarily wide range of products. These include tube amplifiers for electric guitars, acoustic guitar amps, and all kinds of effect pedals. Classics like wah-wahs and distortion pedals, but also cab simulations, loopers, and digital wireless systems are always available at reasonable prices. The young company’s products have already had success with well-known artists and made a lively circle of "endorsers" for itself, especially in the Metal fraternity.

A lunchbox amp for all occasions

Whether they are practising at home using headphones or a small speaker cabinet, or even running it through a 4x12" cab on stage, the Joyo BanTamP XL Zombie II will always deliver the impressive high-gain tube amp tones associated with legendary West Coast amplifier manufacturers, and its series effects loop allows the already impressive sound to be further enhanced by adding delay, reverb, and other modulation effects. Players can even deploy the Zombie II in a recording environment by running the signal from the amp's headphone output (complete with speaker simulation) to their DAW, thus completely eliminating the need for a speaker cabinet. There can still be no doubt, however, that the most beneficial new feature in this updated version is the addition of a second channel, which opens a whole new range of applications for the Joyo BanTamP XL Zombie II.

Does the job very well!
John Pap 21.11.2021
I've been playing with this amp for about a week now and I'm very satisfied with it! However, I feel that i have to mention a few things about it. For small gigs, home recording, practice and playing it is more than satisfactory. The sound of both channels is excellent (I'm running it through a Harley Benton 2x12 Vertical) and it feels sturdy and high quality. The sound is very nice from the start, meaning you don't have to tweak it much to sound good. The portability is an amazing feature. It works like a practice amp with headphones and the quality is really good. But, if you want it for rehearsals with a full metal band, the volume is not ideal. It is loud but I feel it is not loud enough, even at full volume it gets buried by a 100W tube head, a bass head amp with cabinet and a full drum kit. Many videos on youtube say that it is more than enough to play with a drummer, which is true! BUT, again, with a full metal band (or any other band at high volumes) it will not be satisfactory. Having said that, don't forget that it is a Hybrid 20W amp, so I wouldn't ask it to deliver something that a full 100W tube head would. It us not designed this way. Overall, considering the price, sound and quality I'm extremely satisfied with the Zombie 2 and I believe you will be too. The only down side (for me) is that it is not loud enough for rehearsals with a full band.

THIS IS A BEAST

I couldn't believe the sound that came from this little guy from a 1x12. i set it's volume on 2 and the ground started shaking, even if you crank it up it will still hold the tone settings you have set. Its' 2 channels and straight-forward interface make it really easy to operate. Its' weight and dimensions make it the best amp to move around. The virtual cabin when using headphones make it a really good amp for the average bedroom guitar player, also it's bluetooth function can be really useful. Overall great amp, well-worth it's money.

Clean tone blending to overdrive
Teleasim 16.03.2023
Clean tone signal is blending to overdrive channel at a low volume level. It's looks like a common problem with this amp. Thomann couldn't fix it. I do not recommend this amp as a bedroom level amp.

S
Too loud for home & bedroom usage
Shaera 20.06.2022
I mostly like to play metal but I mostly have the time when my son is sleeping

So the idea was to have a "baby" amp with tons of gain but at quiet volume instead of having a big configuration like Tube Amp into load box into audio interface into monitors speakers / headset.

Therefore, I wanted an amp that can chug and that can do bedroom usage.

On the first point: Awesome, this little amp sounds actually good. It chugs as hell with tons of gain: I like it

On the 2d point, this amp is LOUD. How this tiny lunch box can deliver so much power ? That's just insane. With the volume at noon on a 1x12 it chugs the hole room as never.

Conclusion:
If you are looking for something amazing that chugs as never with tons of gain & volume, this is definitively an amp to consider. Specially at that price point.
Except if you want it quiet cause this lunch box just ask to yell.

So, this is an awesome amp but it doesn't fit my needs.
I think it's the first time I "complain" for a piece of gear being to good :o
