Custom Earmolds for Universal Hearing Systems
The earmolds must be tailored to a specific hearing system and are not compatible with each other. The earpiece can be removed from the earmold and can therefore be replaced quickly and relatively inexpensively. These earmolds are offered by companies such as Hearsafe, Fischer Amps, Research, etc.
When making these earmolds, it is very important that the sound channel in the earmold is very clean, smooth, and spacious, as otherwise significant changes in sound may occur. The earmold should be made in a concha style to achieve a good fit in the ear and high external noise reduction. Concha style means that the earmold completely encloses the inner ear shell. Other earmold styles are smaller and are mostly used for custom-made hearing protection.
