Two necks for a wide palette of tones

Harley Benton DC-Custom 612 Cherry double-neck electric guitar

The Harley Benton DC-Custom 612 Cherry is a double-neck guitar fitted with both six and 12-string necks that provides a wide variety of tonal options. Players can thus move seamlessly from the characteristic, chorus-like sound of a 12-string guitar to the versatile tones of a six-string electric and vice-versa. In terms of woods, meranti is used for the body and both necks, while four Roswell HAF AlNiCo-5 vintage-style humbuckers deliver a powerful and responsive tone to the amplifier and Grover-brand machine heads as well as a solid bridge-and-tailpiece combination for each neck ensure reliability and a long lifespan. Due to its special shape, the Harley Benton DC-Custom 612 Cherry is also delivered directly in a robust matching case.

Unique tonal variety

The fuller and more harmonically resonant sound of 12-string guitars has always excited a special fascination. The Harley Benton DC-Custom 612 Cherry stays true to the warm, shimmering textures associated with 12-string guitars while also offering more traditional six-string electric guitar sounds. Both necks feature a 22-fret fingerboard made from roasted jatoba that has a flat 350mm (14") radius and is adorned with trapezoid inlays for ease of orientation. The headstocks in turn feature elegant split rhombus inlays and, together with the chrome-plated machine heads, complement the striking appearance of the guitar. Switching between the necks is a breeze thanks to the dedicated switch, which is conveniently located alongside the pickup selector switches and the volume and tone controls.

A guitar with plenty of character

Compared to far more expensive models from other brands that offer a similar range of features, the Harley Benton DC-Custom 612 Cherry gives fans of Classic Rock an outrageously affordable opportunity to revive or reinterpret the songs and sounds from the golden era of Rock & Roll - or simply to get creative themselves. In addition to its authentic sound, the Harley Benton DC-Custom 612 Cherry's unmistakable double-neck design is a real eye-catcher anywhere - whether it's being played on stage or hanging as a decoration in the living room. It should be mentioned, however, that this guitar is not particularly light and so, despite its versatility, it should not be played standing up throughout extended performances.

Ready to rock

The tonal versatility offered by its six and 12-string necks makes the Harley Benton DC-Custom 612 Cherry a must-have for lovers of Classic Rock. The guitar's combination of a large Meranti body and Roswell pickups produces a powerful sound whichever neck is selected. The 12-string neck features open-coil humbuckers to provide clarity as well as emphasis for the additional octave strings, while the humbuckers on the six-string neck are fitted with chrome-plated covers that shift the sound in a warmer, fuller direction by influencing the magnetic field. Due to the wide body and the second neck, the guitar is naturally also heavier than regular models, so those who are planning to play the Harley Benton DC-Custom 612 Cherry while standing up are advised to use a particularly wide, padded strap to better distribute the guitar's weight on their shoulder.

Excellent Value for money
IbbyG 23.11.2019
My first experience with Harley Benton, I am positively impressed. Finishing and attention to detail rivals guitars at double, triple, quadruple price point (Epiphone, Gibson, Ovation, Ibanez and Fender). Plays very nicely. Pickups really impressive. Played it with Marshall Code 100H and 412 cab. Awesome rich sound.
Good quality case. Almost as good as the Ovation case with my double neck.
Cons
- no separate vol and tone controls for 12 and 6 strings.
- a common challenge with all double necks; space tight between the two head stocks makes it difficult to use my Roadie 1 or Roadie 2 auto tuners.

I must thank all the reviews on YouTube.

22 January 2020 Update
Having played this awesome unique instrument for quite sometime, I have the following observations:
- though easy to tune, the 12 string G strings seem to be quite impossible to tune; either they are in tune when open, or at the 12 fret but not both.
- Of all the 14 guitars I own, the neck on both 12 and 6 strings easily twists, affecting the tuning - I have to be careful when playing to avoid this.
Again, excellent value for money, and one of my favorite instruments of choice

Fantastic!
RedTooth 14.10.2024
I'm a child of the 70's, and LedZep has always been my number one band. As a guitarist/singer in cover bands throughout the 80's/90's, I always secretly lusted after Page's 6/12 doubleneck, but even the Epi was way out of my ability to buy. From watching numerous Youtube reviews of the Harley Benton DC 6/12 doubleneck, I decided on impulse to order and pay for it with last year's tax refund. All I can say is...WOW!!! It arrived fast, and when I took it out of its packing carton, I was blown away by the hardshell HB CASE immediately (that alone is almost the price of the name-brand axe's cases). I opened it, and just gazed on it as it stood inclined in its case, letting it acclimate as the temp outside was still a bit chilly. I let it sit for about a week, as I had little time to devote to tuning it up/checking it out in-depth. When I committed to it, I will say that the weight was pretty much what I expected, but I was amazed at how good it felt sitting on my lap. I used a chromatic tuner, and it took only maybe five minutes to get it right. Immediately, I began to play the chords to the "universally-forbidden song in guitar shops", and I actually got emotional...the intonation/action was SPOT-ON, out of the case! What a beautiful, chiming tone the Roswell p'ups provide, playability is an absolute joy, and the fit/finish is nothing short of amazing...at this price, what a fantastic value - Harley Benton hit this one out of the park!

LE
Harley Benson & Thomann
Long Earth Neil 03.05.2017
What can I say - awesome start to finish!
Starting with Thomann, order placed and 5 days later (with a holiday weekend in between) guitar was delivered to UK. Not only that but the communications and order tracking was second to none! Highly recommended!

OK, the Harley Benton DC-Custom 612... I was skeptical about Harley Benton being cut price copies but, YouTube research and chats with friends who own put my mind at rest. This is one truly beautiful guitar both in looks and sounds. Looks, a beautiful well finished cherry glaze on a solid mahogany body & neck, quality pups and hardware. In terms of sound, everything you'd expect from a Gibbo but at a tenth of the price! The 12 string is crisp, clear and jangly and the 6 string equally so but gutsy as hell when you kick in an overdrive amp setting!
The one downside, stating the bleeding obvious, this is one hell of a head / neck heavy guitar. Well duh, it's got two necks! This is not a negative, just need to adjust your playing style a bit to hold the neck up - or rest it on your knee for a VERY comfortable play. Overall, for the chunk of wood and hardware, it's surprisingly light.
Final thing, it comes with a custom hard case which, in itself, would be worth £60 - £100 to buy.
Any doubters should give this, or Harley Benton in general, a real chance - a LOT of instrument for your cash!

DS
Bucket List Item...Check!
Dj Shadowfall 15.05.2020
I can't even begin to describe the feeling I had when this beauty arrived and I got to feast my eyes on my very own 6/12 double neck. I have coveted one for more years (decades) than I should admit to, but was always put off by the price tag. Yes, it can be a little clumsy and head-heavy, but that comes with the territory. The quality is really good, the setup was really nice out of the box and it's just gorgeous. The sound coming off the Roswell humbuckers is pretty damn good and I don't see myself feeling the need to change them out, The Grover tuners may not be the top of the line models, but hold tune quite nicely. So far, I have only used it in a studio setting, but it has stood up very well in that environment. Thank you for helping my cross off a life long bucket list item, I never thought I would have one.
