C
Of a great gift choice.
Clothsnake 17.02.2020
This is a bit of a joke.
I was looking at this as a gift for someone who finds the cigar box guitar a fascinating thing. I won’t get them this... it feels cheap and nasty. Part of the fun was meant to be the ‘kit’ element but apart from popping some ferrules into holes and stringing... there is no crafting to do. These are easily built things and I just imagined that this could be a far better ‘kit’.
It’s basically a toy. Mine even seems to have some kind of shrink-wrap that can’t be removed making it look and sound terrible.

I wasn’t expecting a first class piece of equipment for the money... but seriously... this is not a good buy, unless it’s for a child.

Pro:
Cheap
Easy
Does play

Con:
Not cheap for what it is
Not a kit
Looks and sounds horrible

Not a Kit
Maestro.T 11.07.2023
This is not a kot. Putting on the nut (a bolt) and the 'bridge' (a piece of steel) does not make for a kit. The cigarbox isn't even real wood. I've destroyed mine because it was a esthetic attack on mine eyes and I am looking for a fitting box. The tuners are decent and the 3 strings tuned to a open D nothing are fun enough to less around with. The piezo is the cheapest one made in the world. There is no volume. The lines that mark the frets are nice but you can do that yourself. The tuners are on the barely side of okay.

Save yourself from this disappointment and get a real hardwood square beam and a big cigar or other cheap wooden box and make it yourself. Kind a old violin and use the tailpiece from that. Make a bridge from some old rosewood and a guitar bridge you cut into half. And make something. You can make something worthwhile and better by looking at some YouTube tutorials. No real experience required.

This isn't even good for in the fire since the plasticised cardboard won't burn without toxins. And the maple just slow.

R
For people with the blues
RMI007 06.04.2022
This kit is easy & a lot of fun to put together. It will not sound crystal clear but that is not what you expect from an instrument of this kind. If a dirty blues sound is what you want this is a great addition to you guitar set. It's also educational & you will be able to say you built a guitar yourself! Recommended.

This is not a toy!
theotox 09.10.2020
Very easy to setup, amazingly good sound out of what is possibly a (partially?) cardboard body,
Also, it can be connected to an amp, which was a bonus, didn't realize it had a pickup when I bought it.
Wish it had 4 strings though.
