Good things come in small packages

The Zoom F2, an extremely lightweight and ultra-compact field recorder equipped with a lavalier microphone, is eminently suited to the requirements of mobile creators such as podcasters, videographers, bloggers, vloggers, and journalists. Thanks to its 32-bit float technology, the F2 allows even the loudest audio signals to be recorded without any risk of overmodulation and the quietest signals to be captured in great detail with a resolution of 44.1kHz or 48kHz. An F2-BT variant of this field recorder is also available, which includes a Bluetooth 4.2 interface and Zoom’s F2 Control app with just a slightly higher price tag.

Sophisticated features

The Zoom F2 records directly to a microSD or microSDHC card (not included) with a storage capacity of up to 512GB. This compact field recorder boasts a wide range of practical features, such as the Rec-Hold function that prevents keys from being accidentally pressed during recording and an 80Hz high-pass filter that effectively attenuates impact noise and other unwanted low-frequency sound (e.g. handling noise). The Zoom lavalier mic comes with three windshields and a clip that allows it to be attached to the user’s clothing (e.g. collar), and features two screw-lock sockets in mini-jack format at the top (line/mic input and headphone output with dedicated volume control) that prevent it from being unplugged in just about any action-filled situation.

Connections on the Zoom F2 field recorder

... and action!

The Zoom F2, which has been specifically designed for mobile creators, will come into its own during video production and pure audio recording, especially by preventing audio and video syncing issues through its high-precision internal clock. The F2 field recorder can be operated for up to 15 hours on just two standard AAA batteries (rechargeable batteries can also be used) or using the Zoom AD-17 power adapter (available separately) via the USB-C port, which can also be used for fast and easy data transfer to and from a computer. Last but not least, the F2 is extremely convenient and secure to carry thanks to its low weight of just 32g and the included belt clip.

About Zoom

Founded in 1983, the Japanese company Zoom manufactures a variety of audio equipment, including a range of portable "handy" recorders as well as multi-effects processors, effects pedals, drum machines, and samplers. Over the past thirty years, the company has built a reputation for producing innovative yet affordable products based on original microchip designs. Since the Zoom-9002 (an ultra-compact multi-effects processor that can be attached to a guitar strap) was introduced in 1990, Zoom has become one of the leaders in digital audio processing.

Always ready to go

The Zoom F2 comes with a matching omnidirectional lavalier microphone, but it can also be combined with any other microphone supporting 2.5V plug-in power. This versatile field recorder is not only the ideal solution for capturing high-quality audio outside of a studio environment, but will also come in useful for quick recordings in a rehearsal room. Users who prefer remote transport control via Bluetooth should take a look at the larger Zoom F2-BT model, which comes with only a slightly higher price tag.

Delivers as promised

I had been on the lookout for a dependable solution for recording 2 voices (interview/documentary context) for a while and most wireless recorders seem to have either issues with disconnecting (audio dropouts) or ridicuously short battery life.

For those reasons I went for 2 Zoom F2s which I used to record the audio of a documentary (it's on youtube, look for Threetom Modular Visit). The battery seems to last forever, both units were on record almost constantly for about 4 hours without any issues. At some point my interviewee turned off the unit before stopping the recording first, I thought I lost that recording but it turned out this doesn't matter. The units fell, got bumped into, and they kept working great.

The audio quality of the lapel mics isn't the absolute best but they are decent enough that I don't plan on upgrading them right away. There was no clipped audio, and even silent sounds got recorded.

Recording with these units is hassle free, as I hoped. I haven't come across any issues that make me regret my purchase.

Great piece of device! The 32bit recording is simply great and the sound of the Lavalier great! I used it in various situations, not just for interviews and was way above my expectations.

Ein Neuling bewertet..
zenceLde 28.01.2021

Geschmacksache.

Will einfach nur extra Infos geben.
