Honestly, at this price I didn't expect much! Here are some of the things I like most and that made me choose this model over all the others:
- It's cheap
- It can lay flat on the ground with its rubber feet, or with its double bracket, so the possibilities are quite endless
- It has DMX IN, DMX out, power in and power out, so it's easy to daisy chain the spots in a long chain for uplighting, without needing extension cords or power distribution units
- Its light output is quite good (don't have much other lights of the sort to compare to)
- It doesn't heat up (left it on all day, it's barely warm to the touch)
- the color mixing is pretty good (you have to look very closely to see the RGB mix)
- It looks pretty sturdy with its all-metallic casing
- the colors it outputs are quite beautiful. The white is a little blue-ish, but I suppose you don't get this fixture if you're after a calibrated white balance.
Some things I noted on the negative side:
- my power-in IEC is a bit wobbly
- the infrared remote is very hard to use and almost never works (but really, it's a gadget feature... i use it for mood lighting my studio at the moment and I must point it 100% on the infrared sensor, and even then, it works one time out of ten)
- the menus are cumbersome (but again, with 4 seven-segment digits and 4 buttons, it's hard to make it much easier)
- the screen is just behind the brackets, so when using the brackets to rest it on the floor, it's very very hard to read the screen
- when using the menu to key-in RGB colors, at very low values (1 and 2 out of 255), the result is unpredictable, sometimes the led turns on, sometimes dimmer than other times, sometimes not.
- when the power is turned off and on again, it starts on random values or programs. Quite often mine starts in "strobe" mode :)
I haven't had the time to test the device in DMX yet, i only used its menus and infrared remote.
I think none of those remarks are show stoppers, and I'll most likely get 5 more of those as soon as I can. They aren't perfect for mood lighting (there are a lot of led lights on the market for that), but i'm sure they're useful in any club or mobile dj kit. Can't wait to take them on the road!
