Years of experience have paid off
New functions, increased storage space, more audio outputs, additional trigger inputs, and hi-hat and FX control via expression pedal are just some of the features that set the Roland SPD-SX PRO sampling pad apart from its predecessor models, the SPD-S and SPD-SX. Easier handling, navigation, and playability in dark environments is also ensured courtesy of a large 4.3" LC colour display with backlit controls and customisable multi-colour trigger lights. Other fundamental changes to the Roland SPD-SX PRO include improved pad sensitivity without crosstalk and a convenient facility for editing kits via the SPD-SX PRO App.
Improved pads and enhanced connectivity
The Roland SPD-SX PRO boasts a total of nine trigger pads. The three shoulder pads on the top row feature an enhanced sensor structure for more precise touch sensitivity, and users will now also benefit from improved crosstalk protection to prevent any accidental triggering of the adjacent pads. Distinct pad segregation is ensured by the multi-coloured LEDs, which users can set to the colour of their choice and which additionally make it possible to group specific areas. The Roland SPD-SX PRO also comes with six audio outputs: A balanced stereo master output and four freely assignable mono outputs that allow sounds to be mixed and played individually as required.
The full works
With its generous 32GB memory, the Roland SPD-SX PRO has sufficient capacity to hold up to 44 hours of 48kHz/16-bit stereo audio. Thanks to automatic conversion, the Roland SPD-SX PRO will automatically convert source formats – whether WAV, AIFF, or MP3 files with varying bit rates – to its native 48kHz/16-bit audio format on loading. The sampling pad also comes loaded with a vast library composed of 1550 sounds, 43 erasable preset kits, and 157 user kits. In a live environment, users will benefit from the fact that kits for the next song can be loaded while the sounds of the previously selected kit are still playing, making cut-off songs a thing of the past, and ensuring that professional drummers and artists alike are optimally prepared for every show.
About Roland
The Roland company was founded in 1972 in Osaka, Japan, and has been designing and building electronic musical instruments ever since. During its successful history, Roland has launched many ground-breaking instruments, from legendary drum machines such as the TR-808 and the TR-909 to synthesizer classics like Jupiter-8, SH-101 and the iconic TB-303. Besides synthesizers, Roland’s workstations and electric pianos are also very popular. Equally well-known is Roland’s subsidiary Boss, under whose brand name it designs and sells principally guitar pedals and effects units. Under the Roland Professional A/V label, the company additionally develops and distributes professional equipment for virtually every branch of audio and video production - from home studios through to commercial applications.
Creativity knows no bounds
Sounds layers can be easily created by assigning two sounds to a pad. A distinction is made here between MAIN layers and SUB layers, and separate volume, attack, release, and pitch controls allow the user to tailor their sounds to their own personal preferences while individual sample tags help to speed up sound selection. The Roland SPD-SX Pro also boasts four effects modules, providing everything from modulation, distortion, and filter effects to delays and reverbs for more in-depth sound processing and colouration. The effects are assignable to any pad and trigger input, and users will also benefit from the holistic processing option available on the master.
