The RCF EVOX 12 is a compact but immensely powerful loudspeaker system suitable for the high-quality sound reinforcement of both speech and music in larger venues. The set comprises an impressive eight full-range speakers, which are arranged vertically one above the other in a top unit. This array is mounted on a comparatively large 15" subwoofer with a 3" voice coil. To ensure that the sound can be optimally adapted to any space, the height of the supplied spacer rod between the top and subwoofer can be adjusted. As well as featuring RCF's sound-optimising FiRPHASE technology, the manufacturer has designed the EVOX 12 specifically for touring: The system can be conveniently moved on castors, while the pull-out handle means that there is no danger of the user putting their back out on the way to the next event.
The RCF EVOX 12 speaker set has a Class D power amp with 700W RMS and 1400W peak power, giving this convection-cooled system plenty of kick, while the FiRPHASE signal processing software ensures a crystal-clear sound. The EVOX 12's satellite unit is equipped with eight fully-fledged 4" line array speakers, arranged one above the other; each speaker is fitted with a 1" voice coil. In the bass reflex enclosure, a 15" high-performance woofer with a 3" high-performance voice coil works to produce a low end that goes right down to 40Hz, the crossover frequency being 180Hz. The system's horizontal dispersion angle is 90°, while the vertical dispersion angle is 30°. Operation is simple: There are two switches for selecting whether the input signal is at microphone or line level and, when using the speakers for quiet background music, the boost button can be activated, giving a rich and balanced sound, even at low volumes. The input signal can then be plugged into the top unit using the speaker-twist cable supplied.
The RCF EVOX 12 can be set up in next to no time, and is ideal for anyone without prior technical knowledge looking for quick and easy installation in larger rooms for up to 300 people. The maximum sound pressure level is an impressive 130dB, giving the EVOX 12 enough sound for entertainers, bands, presentations, or simply for the next house party; mobile DJs in particular will love the combination of quick setup times and phenomenal sound. The RCF EVOX 12 can be connected to the output of a mixing console or directly to an announcer's microphone. Now for the quick set-up: The EVOX 12 can be moved safely and effortlessly using its integrated handle. The included distance rod is then used to position the top unit on the woofer – it is height-adjustable, so it can provide the best possible sound in different spaces.
In 1949 the Italian manufacturer RCF began to manufacture microphones and expanded its portfolio in the 1950s with a variety of sound reinforcement products. With the creation of its own development department for loudspeakers, RCF was able to make a name for itself and became a supplier to numerous well-known loudspeaker manufacturers in the USA and Europe. In 1970 the firm began to market its own in-house built hi-fi speakers which have since become part of their product range. From 1980 onwards, RCF has also focused on audio amplification for motor vehicles. Since 1990 the firm has been, and remains today, one of the major suppliers in the professional loudspeaker market.
It's not unusual for an event to have already begun before the main artist actually starts performing. With the RCF EVOX 12's black colourway, a musician can set up almost unnoticed while the party is already in full swing: The slimness of the satellite unit itself makes it practically invisible anyway. If there's a need for more than one microphone, e.g. for violin and piano, users can simply employ a small mixing console with a jack or XLR output and connect it to the input of the subwoofer. For a classic stereo sound, a pair of EVOX 12s can be installed on the left and right of the stage. Last but not least, this is a speaker system that will grow with the user's needs: If an adjoining room - in a modular multi-purpose complex, for example - also needs to be patched into the main event's sound, a second EVOX 12 can be easily connected to the output of the first.
Boost switch
When using this set for quiet background music, it is important to remember to activate the boost button, because the human ear isn't very good at hearing low frequencies played at low volumes: A song that sounds balanced when played loudly seems to lack bass when played quietly. The boost switch counteracts this effect, so that, when the boost is active, any audio material is given an extra helping of low end. This way, even bass-heavy music styles will sound good whatever the volume. This function is especially useful when the speakers are being used for background music.
