Pyramid Nickel Classic Special 011-048

81

String set for electric guitarThe special feature of these strings is the round core wire of the wound strings. Normal strings have hexagonal (hexagonal) core wires, which simplifies production and the manufacturing costs.

Round core wires on the other hand must be wound with the utmost care in order to secure a uniform contact pressure to the nickel wire.

The Pyramid Nickel Classic strings therefore have a significantly improved vibration behaviour, which provides a very long decay of the string (sustain) and a uniform sound development.

Important: The wound strings cannot be simply cut because the nickel round wound would unravel immediately. First twist the string sharply and then cut the string behind the bend.

Excellent sound but a couple of issues...

I absolutely LOVE the sound of these strings.

There are a couple of negative things that I need to mention though:

-I've experienced premature breakage of the higher strings a bit too often. And when I say premature I mean when I bring the strings up to tension for the first time. I don't know if I've gotten a bad batch or something...??? I've never experienced this problem with any other strings. Sure, I've gotten an occasional bad string but with these Pyramids it has happened a little too often.

-I get more fret buzz with these strings. I guess this is partly because of the more flexible round core but I've experienced more or less the same with hex core Pyramids too. Whatever the reason, this means I need to keep the action slightly higher than with most other strings. The flexible, soft feel of the round cores make up for this to some extent but I'm not entirely happy about it.

-These strings intonate slightly differently than "modern" strings. To the point where they can't be intonated properly on many guitars. The worst ones seem to be guitars with slanted tune-o-matic (or similar) bridges. The wound strings end up being flat in the upper frets even with the saddles all the way forward. The sad truth is, I simply can't use these strings on many guitars.

I absolutely LOVE the SOUND of these strings though. They sound absolutely amazing! Unfortunately the things I've mentioned above makes them more or less useless to me and I won't buy them again.

I've tried other gauges of these strings too with similar results. It's such a shame because they really sound GREAT!

Very smooth feel and pianolike sound

I love these strings on all my guitars that aren't being used for heavy rock sounds. Much lower tension and slightly lower output then modern hex-core strings. I feel like everyone should try these at least once.

One of the best, if not THE best, strings I've used with my Les Paul. You can't beat nickel strings for both tone and attack. Will definitely purchase more in the near future!

L
Pyramid Nickel Classic Special 011-048- nice !

These are worth trying . I was a lifetime Ernie Ball user but now these are better . The wound strings might lose some definition and twang in comparison to EB so you must adjust a little . These last a VERY long time and even 6 gigs later and playing time at home and they are still enjoyable ( but a bit dead as you can guess ) . Try that with other strings .... ! Even when they are dead they are still fun .

the other part is the sustain is really good and also string bending is easy . Its a very classic "old " sound with best tuning also.

The intonation was a bit unusual on the D , A and E but over 3 string set change the intonation is consistent.

I use these on a Gibson 335 and will try them on my strats . I must recommend these as they are a very good string and you might like them . It is very nice to find such a good string at a good price but they do might need a little change in your setup but it is worth it ,
