The Mooer MVP3 Loopation is a user-friendly looper designed for guitar-playing singers, singers with instruments, and many other looper enthusiasts who appreciate practical functionality without a lot of frills. With its 11 loop slots and a recording duration of up to 70 minutes, as well as vocal effects, it also stands out against other models its category. The pedal can capture signals through its INST (instrument) line input or its XLR input, allowing for simultaneous recording, editing, and saving of guitar and vocal loops to one of the aforementioned 11 slots. For vocals, it offers three modes - Flat, Warm, and Bright - via the tone knob, in addition to which both voice and guitar loops can be independently enhanced with reverb. The two illuminated soft-click switches in turn ensure that looping remains straightforward even in low-light environments.
Mooer focused on practical usability when developing its new Vocal series, aiming for a user-friendly experience without the need to navigate through time-consuming menus. This is evident in the MVP3 Loopation's design, which operates without a display; each step in its use is therefore logical and straightforward. The "Master" knob controls the overall volume, while the "Mix" knob adjusts the levels between the microphone and instrument inputs. The "Song" knob is used to select the recording memory, with slots 1 to 8 offering five minutes each and slots 9 to 11 providing ten minutes of recording time. Alongside the 6.35mm jack output on the pedal's left side, an XLR output it also provided on the rear panel, allowing vocal and instrument output signals to be tapped separately or together. The same section also accommodates the microphone input, activates the 48-volt phantom power supply, and allows adjustment of the microphone input level.
The looper market is vast and often overwhelming, with many devices being equally complex in their full operation. While many alternatives can certainly offer a wider range of possibilities for (creative) manipulation, for many users, the extensive features found in professional-grade loopers are less crucial: What matters most is straightforward operation to ensure a successful live performance. The Mooer MVP3 Loopation delivers on this front, offering high signal quality, three voice presets, a studio-quality reverb effect, and, not least, a remarkably generous amount of storage space.
Mooer is based in the Chinese city of Shenzhen and has been making products for guitarists since 2010, which include compact single pedals through to multi-effects units and compact amplifiers. The company initially produced a range of mini pedals before making perhaps its most significant breakthrough in 2016 with the sophisticated Ocean Machine delay pedal, which was designed in collaboration with Devin Townsend. Mooer's product range now also includes solutions that feature amp modelling, IR-based speaker simulation, and matching equalisers, and the company's focus remains firmly on the use of digital technology.
The ease of use it provides is certainly one of the biggest advantages of the Mooer MVP3 Loopation, making the pedal especially suited for live performances, where minimising unnecessary adjustments while still maintaining high signal quality and ample storage is key. With its combination of balanced and unbalanced inputs and outputs, the pedal offers a high level of versatility in application, whether on a guitarist's pedalboard, at the input of a mixing desk, or for recording loops directly to a computer. The Mooer MVP3 Loopation is supplied with a suitable 9-volt power adapter, but users should note that battery operation is not supported.
