I have so far built 2 Schlagwerk (CBA2S) cajons, and now it was time to try the Meinl instead.
Unfortunately I have been disappointed in too many ways to recommend this one :(
Box content - the Meinl comes _without_ any of these: Glue, tightening straps, assembly guidance cardboard, sandpaper, or assembly plate. All of these were supplied with the Schlagwerk cajon kits.
Assembly guide - the descriptions are not impressive, and can sometimes be quite confusing. For example the measurements for the front plate, where some distances are measured from the edge of the front plate, and others from the centre of the front plate (which is not marked in any way...?).
The materials - here is the only +1 for this one, which is the front plate which is nice looking. The sidepanels etc are similar quality to CBA2S.
The sound - and this is the biggest one for me: It is WAY to tonally high for me - the "bassdrum" sound is highpitched and dim compared to the "boom" I can get from the CBA2S. Maybe because the Meinl frontplate is thicker and heavier, it appears?
Conclusion: I would personally recommend to spend the 10-15€ more and buy the CBA2S, which I belive will give you a better assembly experience and end product.

Great entry level cajon, fun to build
LukaCR 13.12.2021
This is a great entry level product, excellent value for money!
I built this with my kid and it was easy and lot of fun putting it together. Also a great initiative to play, since she also participated in construction.
The sound is solid, a bit on the high side, the bass in not very accentuated, but it does the work, especially for the beginner.
The front faceplate finish is beautiful, the finish looks amazing, and fits great in any room

Cheap but great value

Hard to beat this cajon for the money, excellent value and its made in Europe!
Bear in mind you will need a few basic wood working tools to complete the cajon. The kit requires you to have a pair of strap clamps, wood clamps and a drill. The actual assembly is very straightforward, my 12 year old was be able to put this together will minimal supervision.
Unfortunately my kit came with a slightly warped front but it didn't affect the sound and playability of the cajon.
Highly recommended!
