I upgraded from a TC combo amplifier (BG250) that I had used for 5 or more years. Performing professionally at wedding/events/functions, the TC was fairly light and plenty loud for most events I performed at. I'd always been interested in Mark Bass and seen other Bass players use them, but the price had always put me off buying one, plus my TC amplifier met my needs. The TC finally died and wasn't worth repairing, so I decided to finally buy the Mark Bass setup. I bought this head paired with the 58R cab 121 and I have to say it was one of the best decisions I've made in a long time. It was expensive compared to my TC yes, but worth the investment. This head has transformed my sound, the ultra low control is brilliant, adds such depth and punch to the sound, plus the 5 band EQ which makes tailoring your sound much easier. The Milleriser and Old School tone controls, in combination with the 5 band EQ makes for such a huge range of possible sounds/tones. The overall setup (head and cab) is very lightweight and easy to transport. I am still playing with the sound, but the old school setting gives a deep bassy/mids sounds from what I can find and sounds a little more like an upright or fretless. Overall I'm very happy with the product, and it comes with a good warranty too!

Sortant d’un Ampeg SVT et d’un EBS Fafner, je suis franchement très satisfait. Il offre de nombreux réglages, ce qui permet de trouver un son bien rond et équilibré. Même si, par rapport à mes anciens amplis, on n’a pas la lourdeur et l’impact d’un ampli à lampes ou d’un classe B, j’arrive à sculpter mon son très rapidement.
Le son est résolument moderne, mais grâce aux multiples réglages, on peut s’approcher de la chaleur d’un ampli à lampes ou d’un transistor classe B, même si l’impact reste différent. Franchement, il n’y a rien à envier à un ampli à lampes classique ou autre. Et puis, vu le poids, c’est un vrai plus ! Avec tous ces réglages, on peut façonner son son à son style sans difficulté.
Je ne regrette pas mon choix. J’ai gardé mon vieux Fafner, que je trouve meilleur en termes de son, mais avec 15 kg contre 5 kg, je ne me prends plus la tête. Si je joue en in-ear, je prends le petit Markbass ; si j’ai besoin d’un gros ampli, je sors le Fafner. Mais clairement, je crois que c’est la fin des gros systèmes d’amplification. Adieu les classes B et les lampes ! Ces petits amplis en classe D sont tellement géniaux. Si tu es un ancien comme moi, fonce, tu ne seras pas déçu !

Der bessere "Little MARK"

Die Vierbandklangregelung des Flagschiffs von Markbass ist ja bekanntlich Geschmacksache. Der Little Marcus mit seiner Fünfbandklangregelung ist da deutlich flexibler. Nach meinem Eindruck ist der Sound gegenüber der Vorgängerversion einen Tick akzentuierter, höhenreicher und insgesamt transparenter. Ich hab ihn in einen 2x10er Combo eingebaut und bin bis auf die etwas harschen Höhen (kann eventuell auch von dem Hochtöner im Combo selbst kommen) sehr zufrieden.
