Having purchased a Getzen bass trombone to replace my cheap Weril bass trombone, I wanted to keep the Getzen in as good condition and as safe as possible.
I already owned two trombone stands from K&M; the 14985 and the 149/1 with the 14985 being left in the band room and the 149/1 coming with me to concerts, etc. The 14985, however, is simply too light to hold my Getzen trombone, which is a lot heavier than the Weril it replaced and, not wanting to leave the expensive and heavy 149/1 stand in the band room, I decided to purchase and try this stand, the 149/9.
The stand performs exceptionally well considering it is designed more for tenor trombones. It feels completely solid when holding bass trombones and puts my mind at rest knowing that it won't be knocked over simply by someone brushing past the trombone, particularly my band's accident-prone tuba players!
The only downside to the 149/9 is that it's slightly heavier to carry around than the 14985 but that's definitely a good thing if you plan on using it with heavier trombones.
I just wish I'd purchased this stand years ago instead of the 14985.
