Warm analogue sound at a budget-friendly price

The EQP-KT from Klark Teknik is a single-channel tube equaliser with switchable frequency selection, variable bandwidth, and custom-built Midas transformers that was designed in England and inspired by a classic tube equaliser first produced in the 1950s which since its inception has been held in high regard for its warm sound. The EQP-KT allows for up to seven frequency settings with independent boost and cut controls and, thanks to the adjustable bandwidth, a wide range of tonal variations can be achieved. This provides sound engineers with an analogue-sounding tool for the creation of a variety of sounds, and the EQP-KT is also available at a much more affordable price than the illustrious original.

Flexible shelving options

The EQP-KT features a class A circuit that meets the requirements of the classic model on which it is based. High-quality components guarantee unparalleled precision, and the characteristic sonic warmth is produced by the 12AX7 and 12AU7 tubes, which also a provide low-noise output. The transformers of the inputs and outputs have been custom-built by MIDAS and will prove themselves in both live and studio situations. Thanks to the EQP-KT's two-band design, it is possible to simultaneously boost and cut specific frequencies. Seven frequency selections can be made using the LF Boost/Cut and HF Boost controls and the LF Boost can provide up to an extra 12dB while the LF Cut can provide a reduction of up to 24dB. The HF Boost can amplify up to 15dB with a Q factor of 1 and up to 10 dB with a Q factor of 10 (broad bandwidth).

Extensive sound-shaping possibilities

The EQP-KT is aimed at all music producers and mastering engineers who are looking for an analogue equaliser with a warm, classic sound for their studios. It can also be used to enhance the sound during live performances - as part of a guitar or bass rack, for example, making it suitable for musicians who want to be able to adjust the sound of their instrument or vocals in a flexible way. Last but not least, the EQP-KT has a low-noise audio signal. Bass frequencies can be enriched with analogue-sounding warmth and mids obtain a silky smoothness, while the treble frequencies get to sound bright and airy. Behind its two-band EQ, there is an internal gain amplifier, and a bypass switch is provided to allow the "raw" and unprocessed signal from the EQP-KT to be compared with the processed signal.

About Klark Teknik

Founded in 1974 by brothers Terence and Phillip Clarke, Klark Teknik designs and manufactures professional audio equipment used primarily in the events industry. Based in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, UK, the company has developed a number of innovative products in the audio field (including the DN60 Real Time Analyzer and the DN300 Graphic Equalizer) and it won one of the Queen's Awards for Enterprise in 1986. Today, the firm (along with Midas) is owned by the Music Group, to which Behringer also belongs.

Powerful equaliser for rack applications

The rear panel of the EQP-KT has one balanced XLR and one unbalanced input and output each in jack format, providing flexibility in the choice of signal connections. The input impedance is 600 ohms, while the output impedance measures 300 ohms. Both the input and output signal of the EQP-KT can reach up to 21dBu, a frequency range of 20Hz to 20kHz, and a dynamic range of up to 101dB. The signal-to-noise ratio is 80dB - so almost no inherent noise can be heard. In addition, the 3kg EQP-KT can be installed in a 19" rack (in which it requires 2RU) and has a total power consumption of 15W.
