I purchased this for an acoustic guitar and subsequently realised that it was designed for classical guitar - my mistake. Happily it still worked just fine, I just snipped off one of the piezo elements.

The installation guide does give suggestions on how you can use all 4 piezo elements for an acoustic guitar if you wish to do so. I first tried with the 4 elements and the difference was negligible.

Installation was relatively simple and the online instruction guide was sufficient. Do yourself a favour and use gel superglue to mount them. From start to finish it took 55 minutes to install. I have a low tolerance for frustration and I would rate the installation process as a 5/10 on the 'Urgh, why did I start this project?!' scale.

The main rival is the K&K Pure mini and to my ears they both sound similar. Possibly the K&K sounds *slightly* better but the Pure Mini costs double of what the Journeytek costs and I think that most people would find that the Journeytek pickup meets their needs.

The jack/strap endpin feels tight and secure - after a month everything still feels good.

There is significant feedback when played into an amp but this is characteristic of piezo contact pickups in general and not unique to the Journeytek. Regardless of whether you buy the Journeytek or the Pure Mini, do yourself a favour and get a soundhole cover - it gives a big reduction in the feedback noise.

Overall, I would happily purchase this item again and install it into another guitar.

Side note: I installed this pickup into a Tanglewood TW2 TSE travel guitar, with a laminated top, back and sides.

Great Value

Firstly these are very well built. The input jack, wiring and pickups are clearly well made and robust. Secondly the output sound is exceptional for this type of pickup; they compare very well with a set of K&K pure pickups I have in terms of reproduction and output volume. I am really pleased with the price to quality ratio and will buy these again without hesitation.
