Due to neck problems, I needed a more manageable bass - short-scale was called for. I looked around, tried some and decided on the Talman.
Finish and quality are very good and it is a very good player with a similarly good sound - the pickups are fine and I don't feel the need to upgrade them.
However, especially given my reason for buying the bass, it is a neck diver in a big way. I've deducted a star from 'Quality' for this reason alone.
To alter the balance, I fitted Schaller Light heads (recommended but 2L+2R aren't sold by Thomann) and a Schaller 3D bridge (which is sold by Thomann). At ¤140 for the extras, that almost doubles the price of the bass - but it is now a very nicely balanced bass.
So, I now have an excellent short-scale bass that has a great, punchy sound but is not light on the bass end.
I can recommend the bass, no doubt, but buyers should be aware of the balance problem.
Separately, Thomann's usual amazing service made buying from them a pleasure.

Love it

Wanted a short scale bass for a while and decided to go for this one as I have other Ibanez guitars and like them a lot.
Had to set it up a bit, truss rod adjustment, bridge lowered and I also had to lower the pick ups as when I was playing hard the strings would hit the magnets and make a horrible bang.
Now it's a wonderful bass to play. I find it so easy to fly around the fret board. Really nice neck.
Only problem is the balance of the instrument, bit of neck dive when standing and playing. But I have to say when I am home and practicing this is the bass I always pick up.
Sounds like a large bass. very pleased with it and will never part with it.

Brilliant!
Anonymous 01.10.2016
I was looking for a bass that wasn't as big and clunky as others, but also had enough pickups to really be able to play with the tone, and this does that brilliantly!
There wasn't a lot of stuff online about this bass, but if you're looking for a smaller bass that sounds and plays just as good as bigger ones, then this is for you. It seem quite underrated, honestly.
It also keeps tune. Like, it just keeps tunes. What more can you ask for?
Would recommend for beginners to intermediates, as by the time you get to pro you'll already know what you want and have bigger better basses to play with, but until then, this will satisfy the funk perfectly.

Brilliant starter Bass
Jonny Spitfire 27.07.2021
I researched about this, but settled after a few YouTube reviews and weighing up full size versus this Short scale Bass.
I was trying to re-create the sound of British Rock Band Royal Bloods Mike Kerr, and this Short Scale Bass is perfect (he only play short scale)... I play and record at home... I didn't want to spend over £200...
Easy to handle, light, high quality instrument setup and ready to go out of the box.
PROs:
Great Size, Lovely Quality, Setup and Packaged Well
Customer Service excellent, originally went for a full size Bass then changed it to this, came via DHL in 4 days to the UK. Great tone and simple controls - noise and hum free...
CONs:
Nothing I can see or hear - tuners work great, some low string buzz but needs more setup perhaps... but still brilliant out of the gate.
No Strap or Cable with it.... small toolkit only and manual.
Great looking and sounding machine, and yes with a few pedals sounds exactly like Royal Blood... I'm hooked.. RECOMMENDED for starter to intermediate players...
