Unreliable and expensive on strings

I used Gotoh tuners to upgrade my bass guitar and was very impressed with the quality. When I decided to upgrade my acoustic I decided to fit Gotoh SD90-SL MG as the dimensions were close to the original tuners. I am constantly changing D and G strings because they break at the pinch point in the tuner whenever I try to tune them. I have checked the nut to see if the string is free to move and isn't binding. Extremely dissappointed as they are great looking tuners but are totally unreliable.
