A true icon

The Fender Precision Bass is one of the true icons of music history, and it has remained virtually unchanged since 1957. There is of course good reason for this: Hardly any other bass has shaped such a large number of musical styles as Leo Fender's legendary four-string. The design of course receives occasional (and conservative) updates in order to cater to bass players' wishes, and in keeping with this trend Fender has revised and modernised certain features of its new Player Series models, including the split coil pickup and overall playing feel, all while staying true to the classic design and concept that made this bass such an icon in the first place. The Player Series is made in Mexico, and players who can do without the coveted "Made In U.S.A." label get a 100% authentic Precision Bass for their money here.

Simple formula, outstanding results

One thing that has not changed is the combination of ingredients that make up a Fender Precision Bass, including an alder body, maple neck, and 20-fret maple fingerboard. These elements are combined with a split coil pickup, in this case a New Player AlNiCo V that provides even more punch, precision, and dynamics and is governed by a single control each for volume and tone. All of this gives the Precision Bass the classic tone for which it has been known and loved for decades and makes it suitable for everything from Motown to Rock. In keeping with modern musicians' requirements in terms of playability, the neck profile of this bass has also been slightly slimmed down and the fingerboard edges rolled, making the transition from one position to the next more comfortable. The model shown here combines a maple fingerboard with an appealing "Buttercream" finish.

Looking for a classic?

The Fender Precision Bass is without doubt perfect for anyone who is searching for the look and sound of a classic instrument and can forego the sonic options provided by modern basses with active electronics. The Precision gives these players an "out of the box" bass that will capably and effortlessly handle virtually any style of music without endless adjustments to amplifier settings: Simply plug in and play. Bassists playing old-school Soul, Blues, and Rock/Hard Rock in particular are sure to find a partner for life here.

About Fender

Fender is without doubt one of the most legendary guitar and amplifier manufacturers of all time. The company was founded in 1946 by its namesake Leo Fender († 1991), whose innovative ideas brought a breath of fresh air into the musical world. His Telecaster, Stratocaster, Precision Bass, and Jazz Bass are not only classics – they also continue to shape the styles of musicians in countless genres to this day. Timeless Fender amplifier models such as the Bassman, Twin, Deluxe, and Princeton also enjoy a stellar reputation. Besides maintaining its classic product portfolio, however, the company is also constantly developing new products that make Fender a driving force in today’s music industry.

Plenty of output

There can be no disputing the fact that the Fender Precision is THE bass for Rock music, and it continues to enjoy immense popularity among bassists of the heavier persuasion even after close to 70 years. One of the reasons is its combination of a high output and a punchy sound, which makes it ideal for all types of higher-gain sounds - whether it's going through an overdrive pedal, distortion pedal, or tube amplifier. After all, a certain amount of output is needed in order to push tubes into saturation or bring out the best in a pedal, otherwise the results can be fairly unspectacular - and if there is one passive bass that can do just that, it is the Fender Precision Bass (and has been since 1957).
