Evh Wolfgang WG Std Exotic SM

For the money, this guitar is awesome. The quality of the product I have questioned, as there are issues with the finish...strange differences in the darkness of the finish on the sides, both of the maple cap and the basswood body. I have asked Thomann about that. Seems mine is a second, tho Thomann won't concede that. But all else is good. The pickups are great, And I prefer them to even the Burst Buckers on my LP. The neck feels really good and the fretwork is excellent. I love the roasted maple fingerboard and neck. Very pretty and easy to play. But the fret markers in black, tho they fit the overall aesthetic, are hard to see in dim light. So that will be an issue on a dark stage. The bridge and Floyd Rose are adequate, tho not premium quality, and for this price, I really didn't expect much more. Fine for dive bombs but not a floating bridge, so pitch up isn't really an option. It's a fun guitar to play. But be aware...The jumbo frets, all tho they make play-ability much easier in many respects, are a potential problem, If you dig in too much you we be sharp. So back off on fretting pressure. The compound radius on the neck is awesome. I think it's 12' to 16' - much flatter in the upper positions. Makes the guitar play like butter.

And even tho there are "inspected by" stickers, two, on the back of the guitar, QC is spotty. The D string snapped at the bridge, simply while fine tuning, and then I noticed the G string had been strung outside of the string channel at the block. Surprised it didn't go first, but apparently, both the D and the G were not strung properly at the bridge. I would have thought QC would have caught that in Indonesia. It didn't. So, if you get one of these, or any of the Wolfgang standards, check the stringing at the bridge. And check the angle of the headstock tree in relation to the nut. Mine was fine, but if the angle is off, you will snap strings at the nut, or go out of tune even with the nut locked.

All in all, a great guitar for the money, but be aware you will need to spend some time setting it up.

Vorab die Info:
Ich bin ein Hobby-Gitarrist und habe mir das Spielen am Instrument selbst beigebracht. Daher kann ich hier eher nur mit Eindrücken als technischem Know How dienen.
Ich beschreibe in meiner Rezension den ersten Eindruck - die Optik - die Hardware - den Sound - und das Fazit.

Ich verwende die E-Gitarre regelmäßig Live in der Lobpreisband meiner Gemeinde, zum unterrichten und zum Üben zu Hause.

Der erste Eindruck:
Sehr gut.
Zwar war die Form und Größe des Instruments für mich anfangs etwas befremdlich, da der Schnitt einfach anders ist als bei den herkömmlichen E-Gitarren (großer Korpus, gefühlt (zu)kurzer Hals, mini Kopf). So wirkt die Gitarre trotz 22 Bünde sehr klein, doch sie liegt unglaublich gut in der Hand. Der Hals fühlt sich durch das Ahorn-Holz sehr geschmeidig an, ebenso wie die Oberfläche des Korpus. An der Stelle wo man den rechten Unterarm am Instrument ablegt wurde die Kante durch einen schräg gewölbten Schnitt entfernt. Fühlt sich dadurch sehr angepasst an und man bekommt eine super Verbindung zum Instrument.

Optik:
Das Finish mit der Naturholzmaserung "Exotic SM" ist logischerweise nicht mit der auf dem Vorschaubild zu vergleichen. Im Grunde nicht schlimm (wenn man auf Natürlich steht), man muss aber damit rechnen dass der Look vom Bild abweichen kann. Wer das "richtige" Muster sucht, muss sich vor Ort die Gitarren anschauen anstatt nur drauf los zu bestellen.

Hardware:
Die Gitarre ist gut verarbeitet. Die Werksbesaitung ist in Ordnung (009-042) Standard. Ich war von meiner bisherigen Gitarre einen 010-046 Satz gewöhnt. Vor dem Hintergrund lässt sich die EVH Wolfgang butterweich spielen ;-)
Die Gitarre war super Oktavrein eingestellt.
Allerdings musste ich nach dem ersten Stimmen das Floyd Rose System nachjustieren, damit der Saitenabstand wieder passt.
Das Floyd Rose System lässt sich nur in eine Richtung bewegen, sodass lediglich DiveBombs möglich sind. Ist aber für mich nicht weiter schlimm. Eher gut.

Sound:
Die Humbucker arbeiten amtlich. Enormer Output. Die ersten zwei Positionen vom Toggle-Schalter geben einen warmen mittigen Klang wieder. Die dritte Position reduziert die Mitten radikal und bringt die Höhen mehr zur Geltung. Gut fürs Solo.

Fazit:
Ich bin rundum zufrieden mit diesem Instrument. Es fühlt sich sehr gut an und klingt wunderbar. Wenn man bedenkt was Gitarren noch so kosten können, ist das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis bei rund 550€ für ein Instrument der Marke EVH, vom Kindheits Guitar-Hero, echt klasse.
