Active coaxial monitor

The Electro-Voice PXM-12MP is an active monitor with a coaxial speaker comprising a 12" woofer cone and a 1.75" tweeter which is driven by a digital amplifier that delivers a peak output of 700W and can achieve an SPL of up to 129dB. Its frequency response ranges from 64Hz to 20kHz, which makes the speaker ideal for a wide spectrum of on-stage monitoring applications. Its multifunctional design means it can also be used as an FOH speaker, and it is particularly flexible thanks to its line input, mic input, and integrated mixer.

Extensive connectivity

Due to its broad, symmetrical coverage field of 90° x 90°, the PXM-12MP can be used in either a vertical or horizontal position, and when used as a wedge monitor, its front panel's 55° slant means the performer will hear the signal directly when standing in front of the speaker. In addition to the integrated mixer mentioned above, the PXM-12MP features two mic/line inputs in XLR/jack combo format as well as an RCA input and an XLR output for the mixer signal, all of which makes this a highly versatile speaker. Finally, an additional XLR output is provided that allows the unmixed input signal to be fed to a second speaker.

Fine-tuning via DSP

Thanks to its DSP capability, the EV PXM-12MP provides users of all levels with a wide range of options for adapting the sound to conditions at the respective location, including high and low shelving, parametric midrange EQs, adjustable low-cut filters, and a tunable feedback notch filter. Unwanted feedback can thus be prevented by targeted frequency adjustments, for example. To provide enhanced ease of operation, users can also store their settings as presets, in addition to which the PXM-12MP contains four EQ presets for common live situations. Users who intend to use this speaker in conjunction with electric bass guitars or hi-fi systems will also need to look for a suitable subwoofer to add to their setup in order to achieve a sufficiently full low-end response, however.

About Electro-Voice

Electro-Voice was founded in 1927 and has been dedicated to building sound reinforcement systems and microphones since the 1930s. The firm, originally based in Indiana, USA, is considered one of the industry pioneers and has developed many new technologies still in use today. For example, their hum-cancelling coil was not only a milestone for microphone construction, but also was at the origin of the humbucker pickups still used in many guitars. In the long history of the company, Electro-Voice has constantly expanded its offer and today sells a wide range of products for sound reinforcement tasks from entry to professional levels.

For pubs, bars, and clubs

Thanks to the EV PXM-12MP's passive cooling, overheating is prevented without annoying fan noise, so the speaker can be used continuously in clubs and bars. Its integrated pole mount also allows it to be placed on the majority of standard speaker stands, so the sound can be projected at head height when it is used as an FOH speaker. The speaker's microphone input makes it a good choice for singer/songwriters who perform in bars and small pubs, and its line input also allows the user to play backing tracks while performing and even background music when they take a break. Small wedding bands and solo entertainers, who don't necessarily require an extensive PA system, will also appreciate these features. The speaker cabinet, which is less than 50cm wide, is constructed from 15mm plywood and weighs in at 13.5kg, so it can be easily transported using the two recessed carrying handles. EV also offers a padded cover to allow the PXM-12MP to be transported with increased safety.
