This pickup is great and it doesn't fall victim to the EMG syndrome where most EMG pickups sound the same as you can tell this does not have your conventional Alnico V magnets but Ceramic magnets and you can really tell, it is a lot more punchy and kicks the metaphorical balls of the top end, it really does sing, it even has a Dimebag quality to it so if you have a Floyd Rose equipped guitar and want to replace the bridge pickup to get massive squeals then buy this pickup and drop it in you wont be disappointed!

I modified an ST to an HSH configuration with these little buggers on neck and bridge position respectively (the middle one is still an EMG single coil for mixing)
The sound is really full and round yet still gives some "straty" quality to the overall tone. To me, it sounds still sharper than a genuine 335 Humbucker, foremost on the neck position, which was exactly what I wanted.
Using the included roll-back (which is sadly not optional, otherwise the entire configuration looses its solder-free quality) knob can still make it sound more "jazzy" (more like the one on the 335)
Only down side - with the solder free option, as mentioned before, only genuine EMG parts can be used. But since they are made to fit together perfectly anyway, that's not really a draw-back to me.
All in all I'm totally impressed.

t
highly recommended neck pickup
t-j-b 04.11.2015
I use the passive EMG H3 in the neck position of a Flying V with an additionally push/pull pot to coil split the pu.
You can play the typical EMG metal tones and even jazzy clean or other non metal music with this pu.
A coil splitted H3 will also sound very nice but it needs some soldering. It does not turn your V into a single coil Strat but it's sufficient to get a nice clear sc chime. The coil splitting is not working by design, you have to get a switch or push/pull pot and solder by yourself which is then not a "quick connect" solution.
Great pickup, highly recommended!
I only wish EMG would sell more quick connect stuff for passive humbuckers like they do for their active series e.g. switches, pots.
