this kind of strings feels right for my octave mandolin. The sound is bright and spacey, while also keeping a mellow and deep character on the lower strings

I use these (and EJ80s, which appear to be the same thing in a different package) on a Freshwater octave mandola. I'm mostly a chordal player so I want strings that respond well when I hit them hard -- these lose their initial janglyness fairly quickly, so they work well for me. Playing at a couple of sessions a week, I get through three or four sets of these in a year.

The top two courses are a bit light; I'd like it if they did a 46 32 24 14 set. But close enough!

Helped the Octave Mandolin Sing

The new Octave Mandolin was much improved with putting these strings on. The instrument really sings now. They have quickly settled in and are holding their tuning well. I would highly recommend these strings.

Solid strings

I bought the Thomann octave mandolin and bought these as spare strings. On a side note, I'm not sure if they actually use the very same strings on these Thomann brand instruments they sell, but it sounded pretty much identical before and after first string change - good.

They sound good and I never broke a string before I changed them to freshen up, months on end. But from my experience, the mandolin family tends to destroy picks and not strings :)
