Perhaps my expectations were a bit misplaced for this mute, but it honestly didn't make a great deal of difference on the violin. It muted maybe 10% of the volume at most - and was a little fiddly to move around. We ended up purchasing a different type of metal mute that fits over the bridge and substantially dampens the volume - however, at a cost of tone. If you're looking for quiet practice without disturbing roommates and neighbours, I'd suggest the latter type of mute. This may be suitable if you want to slightly attenuate volume whilst preserving most of your tone.

Nice tone when muted
Anonymous 07.10.2016
I got this to replace one of those cheap rubber tourte mutes everyone seems to have. The rubber one left marks and my bridge and squeaked when I put it on or took it off. They also tend to rattle a fair bit.
This mute has none of these issues. It mutes whilst still leaving a pleasant tone, it is easy put on during a piece as it just slides forwards with no notch to place over the bridge, and it doesn't rattle or move around when its off.
The box it comes in is lovely, but I never use it as the mute is permanently on my violin.
On top of all of this, I think it just looks nicer than the rubber mutes!

Practical and effective

Quite substantial reduction in loudness, but the tone is still nice and balanced. Very easy to engage/disengage, and also quite easy to mount/remove completely, if you insist on doing that. May rattle when not in use, but the recommended solution of setting it diagonally on the strings solves that reliably.

I have used different Mute's over the last 50 years, I found that they can interfere when using Pizzicato, with this Mute if you want it, there it is in the right place and no interference it's that simple!
