the box pro Achat 804 MKII

I wanted the column speaker look and these fit the bill. The Planar Wave driver is a BMS 4512ND with a shallow cast aluminium waveguide. This is a high quality part to find in a speaker at this price point. It is mounted in the middle so you need to consider this when setting the height as you want to get it just over peoples heads. There are also eight Elder Audio 04TX025-8 woofers in a 2.5way configuration. Four are in vented compartments and the other four in sealed sections. This means that you get more down in the kick range but I still wouldn't classify this box as full range. You do not get much output below 90hz. Sensitivity seems to be accurate at around 94db. You would get a bit more output from a good quality 12" + 1" box but one sub to one top cabinet gives a good balance. The sound is nice and detailed. It has that BMS sound which some people like and some don't. It's quit analytical so can be a bit unforgiving if the source material is not that good.

The construction of the box seems reasonably good. There are handles at the top and bottom. This means there is no integrated pole mount. There is a pole mount adapter accessory option but this mounts to the back of the cabinet. The box is quite deep which means you have a lot of weight moving forward which can make things a bit unstable. OK for fixed installation use but I mounted an external top hat and find this a better option as it sits central on the stand. It would also be nice if the rear binding post connections were recessed as they protrude meaning you cannot lie the box on it's back. They are quite a large heavy box so not the easiest things to handle.

Overall I would say it's a good value for money speaker if this is the type of look you need.
