Do not play these
Felix987 29.12.2015
I've read a lot of reviews on the Tama Silent Tips, where people argue that you can easily practice in the evening at home or anywhere else, where it is necessary to play soft. Are all of them Tama-endorsers?
Those tips do NOT bring you any volume advantage to play softer! Of course, the clatter of the sticks is diminished slightly. But due to the fact that these tips are pretty heavy, the stroke that you execute becomes heavier as well. Consequence: more power and ultimately as loud as beforehand. The stroke is like a heavy smack.
Another negative side-effect: due to the weight of the tips, the balance of the sticks changes drastically. There is a lot more weight on the front end of the stick, so you have to adapt your technique to this. Once you get back to your normal sticks, you have to adapt again. So there is no real benefit in practicing for me.
Last but not least: it is already pretty annoying to put the silent tips over the tips of your sticks. But the removal becomes a mission in life. Not to break them, when you want to remove the tips, is nearly impossible.
I would actually give it a lower rating. But the price tag is so low that I actually don't care about the failure of buying them.

Silencing cymbals
Animale 25.11.2020
No problem putting them on my 5a sticks.
Don't feel too much heavier after adding them, but there's definately a weight increase.

Not much silencing going on hitting the drums, hence the 2 stars deduction.
But they do work on the cymbals.
Takes away the attack. The initial stick attack is gone, I mean really gone when playing cymbals with these.
I didn't expect that.
This makes hitting cymbals sound like when you make them swell with the sides of your sticks old fashioned style. Even like mini-gongs at the hit.

So keep a pair of sticks with these around, they'll always be usable at some point.
Cheap experimenting this way. But you can forget about the silent drumming.

Useful, not softer, different
MB202 18.12.2020
Useful, especially for electronic kits. It does not lower the sound at all but it makes that the contact sound of the stick is less harsh (less "tock"). Balance of stick is unaffected, bounce somewhat different but nothing special.

I don't get the excitement of people who bought this. It doesn't decrease noise level it just makes it lower. And it doesn't make sticks playable on any surface, I would rather do it without these tips.

Pros:
+ quality is fine

Cons:
- doesn't decrease noise level
- decreases rebound
- makes sticks much heavier.
- makes tips of sticks heavier, so with my 5A stick it feels like I use em upside down
- i tried to use it with my MPS-850 E-drum Set and noise level is even increased

I use these 'silent tips' for something completely different: after equipping my drumsticks with these tips, the ride and crash cymbals give a beautiful 'mystery / fairy-tale' sound. Nice surprise.

They are not complete silencers but a useful amount of attenuation nevertheless

Nice little thing

Those tips are an easy way to practice everywhere when you forget your practice pad. Silent and fit perfectly A7,A5 and 2B. Last thing; they are made in Japan, not China, and this make a huge difference.

Also adds a little weight which changes the balance in a helpful way for practice.

Perfect for Practising
Anonymous 10.05.2016
So i use these on some 7a sticks and find them perfect for both tapping on my studio desk as well as for practicing on my acoustic kit to keep the volume (slightly) lower. Only criticism is that as other people have said, these are very hard to put on and take off, so i would suggest getting a pair of sticks just to use with these! My 2 cents.
