Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound P/J Bass Set

Firstly, I've been playing bass in rock bands for the past 5/6 years and I can easily say that this is easily my best purchase in those years.

I bought these pickups to put in a Harley Benton bass worth ¤130, as a fix up project.

Sound:

Where do I begin. These pickups offer a huge array of sounds. The neck pickup (precision) on its own offers a very Fender-esque vintage p bass sound, while also offering it's own spin.

The bridge pickup (jazz) on it's own sounds very different and quite like Jaco Pastorius, while also having it's own spin too. It's thin, but has it's own shine.

My favorite way to run these pickups in a Rock/Punk setting is with both on full and tone on full also. The sound is very full, just enough bass to keep it's presence, while also offering enough treble to cut through any wall of sound.

For a more relaxed Jazz setting I use neck pickup on full with bridge at about 2 and tone at 5. This offers a beautifully smooth sound that sustains into oblivion and drives walking bass lines.

Honestly, my Harley Benton would be horrifying without these pickups. 5 stars.

I bought these pickups to put into my Yamaha RBX170 (i.e The cheapest bass you can get). The stock pickups sounded flat and dull to me and since I liked the feel of the bass, I decided the cost of these pickups was better value than a new bass. Honestly, I expected these to get decent enough pickups that would make my bass giggable. But my word was I blown away!

These pickups have some incredible range. While a lot of people (including myself) would know about them through Nick Oliveri and Roger Waters, these pickups can do so much more than punchy rock bass. With just the P-bass pickup, it can get very close to a motown sound. The jazz pickup can nail that post-punk bass sound and with both on you're almost in String Ray territory!
I'd highly recommend these pickups.

After reading someone else's evaluation of these pickups in a Yamaha RBX170, I decided to give it a go. I have an RBX270, exactly the same model, but quality-wise one step up (different body wood, better tuners). Decent bass for the money, but at that price point the pickups are usually a weak link, giving a somewhat hollow tone and being quite microphonic also. Swapping them for the SD P/J QuarterPounders was a breeze! The manual is clear, but it describes a volume/volume/tone configuration, while my Yamaha has volume/pickup blend/tone. No big deal, just connect the SDs the same way as the original pickups. Now she growls and snarls deeply with a full rich tone, with high output and very little noise! The pickups are balanced very well, the P and J have their own distinctive character but come on equally strong. Tested on a VOX headphone amp and on a Markbass Little Mark III with Peavey 4x10" cab in a band rehearsal. Absolutely no problem cutting through between two Marshall guitar stacks!

Installed these in a project bass a few months back and they haven't disappointed in the least! From the off they offered a much wider frequency response especially in the low mids (Great when the split p is singled). These pickups are extremely versatile giving all the tone needed for a top end bass guitar. These imo sound most whole when paired with 500k pots, and an orange drop .022mf. After a few months of play (and the occasion of being around cigarette smoke) the pickups have really warmed up, with the split p capable of getting a real 60s tone, then being able to dial some high end presence with the jazz in the bridge makes these for my style of playing unmatchable. Although something important to mention that my friend with a squier jag who swapped a set of these in found that these were pretty vile sounding with the active system, however i think this might be because he picks really hard and plays the thinnest roundwounds and was complaining about bottomless driven tones.

I got them a couple of months ago and have no regret in getting them.

I play everything from folk to rock and it has really held up in terms of sound and clarity.

Playing up the fretboard still holds a warm tone while still keep a defined tone.
The bridge position holds up so well to,with plenty of bite and enough growl from the neck pick up to keep an even tone through out

Pros/cons
They have an incredible range to find an appropriate sound for whatever i play,warm rumbling lows and clear bity highs.
i've had them for a few month now paired with several amps and i've yet to experience any fault with them

Desiring a better sound (already playing with a great Ampeg amplifier ) I decided to buy this product. This is available in very good packaging and clear manual guide to adapt it to the bass guitar. It needs relative experience to replace but is not so difficult. I advise not to loosen the pick up cables by the potentiometer because this is very difficult. It is better to join default and new cable in the middle of the route.
?he manufacturing quality as well as the materials are obvious.
The product gives clarity and brilliant sound. There is a clear difference from the first moment you play. I think it produces less noise even when I play the J pick up and opening strings. It's a great choice for improving sound and I highly recommend it.
