Not my cup of tea

There are many who swear by the MXR Carbon Copy pedals. They are typically MXR solid and robust, but you HAVE to like analog delay.

Both the full size and this mini version also features a modulation button, supposedly to mimic tape wow & flutter. But it is either On or Off, there is no level control and, personally, I find it cheesy and distracting.

I find the TC Electronic Flashback 2 (and the mini version) to be far more convincing with their tape simulations, plus, they offer various types of echo, including analog delay, for a lot less cash.

Perfect for slapback delay and oscillation!
robinlangzoght 13.05.2020
I bought this as an update of my older Carbon Copy because I needed some extra space on my board. The Copy Mini is all the good stuff from the normal carbon copy, but in a smaller box and with an added "bright" mode. As compared to the normal carbon copy I'd say this one has a kind of high frequency in the feedback when the delay knob is set past noon. Sounds kinda lo-fi, broken, but still cool! My older one didn't quite have that. So I'd say this one has less "Fidelity" than the big one. I use it for slapback and short echoes only and for that it's perfect. Modulation is beautiful too. Bright mode does something, but not enough in my opinion.

So, good short delay pedal with nice modulation and doesn't take up much space!

High quality with minimum fuss

The dark sound of the delay repeats is exactly what I'm looking for from an analog delay. Having the modulation as a separate switch is useful. The modulation (chorus) of the delay repeats is subtle but you can't change the parameters of it, so it's either on or off. Sounds great anyway. I like the knob sizes, not too small. The pedal is capable of self-oscillation/feedback and general mayhem, as well as more subtle analog delay. There's no tap tempo but if you're looking for a mini pedal like this then the manufacturer can only fit so many controls into it. It gets the essentials right with a great sound.

The carbon copy needs no review
lucapette 08.01.2022
For real though, no need to review one of the most amazing delays out there. It's a classic I would want on any pedalboard. Bonus points for the mini format. It's pretty amazing they managed to make such a small version.

It also has a bright switch which I thought I'd like but I don't. It doesn't remove anything from the pedal though, it's amazing.
