Fantastic sound, flexibility and value for the money.

After trying to decide whether to go for a valve amp or something like a Katana.

I'm so glad that I picked the Marshall DSL40CR. I just love the way valve amps clean up when you roll back the volume. This is a very versatile amp, the clean channel is great and the crunch and drive the amp produces are good too. The amp has a 40 or 20-watt mode and I also use it with the Harley Benton PA-100 Power Attenuator so I can use it for practising at home.

In conclusion, I feel I have made an excellent choice. I can highly recommend this, it's plenty loud enough for gigging. If you have only used a modelling amp before you should really give a proper tube amp a try.

My DSL40 expirience
DrSteave 11.02.2022
I have used this Marshall amplifier on probably 2-3 month and also taking it out and played live maybe 5 times. There’s not been one gig where I’ve ever been concerned about its reliability. The stock valves have worked extremely well and it is great to see Marshall putting in quality tubes/vales to start with. This saves having to upgrade them because they put in junk right from the get-go.

I can foresee myself having this amplifier for quite some time. I’ve purchased and sold so many guitar amplifiers over the years and not have given me such a great sound without any pedals as this particular amplifier has. This has become my main loud gig amp and something I will take to play festivals with when setup time is important. The fewer effects you have on the floor the easier it is to set up. In loud rooms, this is my go-to amplifier. I haven’t been as satisfied with any other amp purchase this much with the exception of my Fender Blues Deluxe. The great thing is, I now have both and they are apples and oranges in terms of what they give me. If you haven’t tried a Marshall DSL40CR give it a shot but remember – TURN IT UP! I hope this review of the Marshall DSL40CR guitar amplifier has been helpful. Feel free to share it if it has been, thank you.

SM
Marshall at it's best
Stephen Mcphail 08.06.2018
First I would like to thank Thomann for all their help & advice on my journey to finding the right amp, they just cannot help you enough, kudos to all of them.
This amp is superb, Marshall at it's best.
I have an American Professional Jaguar, on the clean channel it brings out the best in this beautiful guitar, crisp & clear tones to a subtle crunch & everything in between, the classic crunch gives you THE classic sound of a fender guitar & a Marshall amp at it's finest.
The Ultra gain channel gives some great Les Paul / SG type tones, plus the presence & tone switch give some great nuances as well.
I have used this in my bedroom on the half power setting & it still sounds great at really low volume.
I have an outside barn with a purpose built stage & I have had this amp cranked up as loud as possible, & man is this thing LOUD !!!!!
Loud without losing any sound quality at all.
You won't need a tube screamer or any such pedal here, the only negative thing I can say is that the digital reverb is not that good, but to be honest I have not come across any amp with a good reverb. I have a Marshall RF-1 Reflector Reverb pedal that does that.
The two way footswitch is a great for switching channels & works perfectly.
The amp is solidly built & looks fantastic.

Very good product for the price. Very versatile.
Good clean sound for a marshall typa of amp and also very good overdrives.
The clean channel (green mode) as a bit lower volume then the others but you can compensate that with the 2 master volumes, so thats not a deal-breaker.
Also, if you use buffered by-pass pedals on the FX loop, when you turn it on you will notice a slith decrease on the volume aswell. For me, I keep the FX Loop always on and just turn on/off the pedals I want to use so that is not a problem.
If you like to use dirt pedals, this amps is also a great for that cuz it accepts pedals very well.
The key trick for this amp is very simple: the louder it gets, the better it sounds. However, is very easy to dial good tones in any volume, since bed-room practice levels to any live gig.
I have this amp for about 6 months now and I have nothing negative to point out. still in love with it. highly recomended.

This is the amp you want
WouterH 04.04.2019
This amp is just great. I really love it. The sound is so deep en the features are great. With the footswitch you can easily switch between channels on different volumes. Yes it's heavy, but that's what you get from the massive 12" speaker. It's worth it. (i've placed it on a board with wheels for in my living room)

The real king of rock!
Roberto Alexandre 12.08.2022
This Marshall DSL40 is absolutely amazing. I have a Mesa Boogie Mark V 35, witch is excellent, but this Marshall is far better for true classic rock, from clean to heavier sounds! With the opcional Pedal 91016 footswitch, you have a four channel amp on your foot and it is very easy to dial in the settings for all channels, even if some people may say the opposite... Whatever you do, all four modes work equally great for both rhythm and single note lead work. For the price, you get a huge amplifier.
The only cons are two, just minor issues that wouldn ´t ever affect my choice for this amp: The included footswitch (Pedl 90012) should be substituted from the factory by the opcional Pedl 91016, so you wouldn´t keep a footswitch you won´t use (if you buy the opcional one) and maybe the quality of some materials are not as sturdy as i expected, like nobs...
Overall, stunning real Marshall sound!

Great amp for all genres and levels
Khaled Hafez 19.01.2022
The build quality is great. The 2 powers options are very useful, when playing at home, I have the power on 20 the whole time. I can play at home without disturbing the neighbors and I can be as loud as necessary when gigging. The amp is actually a four-channel amp since each channel has two voicings. You can play any style, from jazz and blues to heavy metal on this amp. I recommend it to all players. If there's a negative point it would be the weight of the amp, but that's normal for tube combo amps.

Really good for the price.
siggiarabi 07.07.2018
Use:
I use it at home and occasionally at band practice.

Pros:
Some good features, amazing sound, good distortion and amazing cleans.

Cons:
Pretty heavy, reverb isn't easily heard unless maxed out, tone shift doesn't do anything immediately noticeable.

I’ve been a dsl user in the past and the new rendition of the series did not disappoint..!!

Two switchable volumes makes things much easier for gigging and this amp loves being played loud..!!

Great for home use too with the 20 watt setting

Love this amp.. I’ve always been a Marshall guy and the DSL40CR helps me understand why 👍
