The Hype Pick Ups of the Metal World!
So I decided to believe the hype and take the plunge and buy these pick ups for a 7 string LTD guitar that I use to record and play mainly heavy metal music (of course).
The process of installing them was handed over to a local luthier in Manchester, along with a friend of mine who took the 8 string version of these pick ups to be installed on their 8 string. Now mine went in ok but the luthiers had trouble installing the 8 string pick ups as these were in tended for the full Abasi 5 way switch set up. So be aware of who you ask to install these!
The look of them is great and it’s like having the latest gadget on in your arsenal (such as a Darkglass pedal, a Dingwall bass or a Neural DSP plugin lol) however really they didn’t sound that much different to the EMGs I had in my 7 string initially but the switching and the tone capabilities are very good indeed. I eventually got very scared at the rats nest inside the control cavity and took the guitar to a pick up expert/luthier in my area (who specialises in selling pick ups as well) and he was shocked that these were active pick ups by their sound - high praise indeed!
The single coil sound is very good indeed!!
Now you can swap these straight out for EMGs as long as there is a bridge ground wire installed in your guitar, this tends to be in the older higher end guitars and obviously there isn’t the switching capabilities.
