I own an old bass. a South Korean copy of a Fender boxer: active electronics, P/J PuPs, good sound. In 1993 I paid for it (new) the equivalent of 75€, including a hard case and a 30W Laney Amp (made in China).
After decades, the electronics begin to be noisy, so I tried a couple of the inexpensive made-in-china kits with encapsulated pre-amp and two P/J PuPs. terrible. so I decided to give this bass a new life. I turned it passive, brand new wiring and electronics and also some decent Fender PuPs. the sound is great and now -for the very first time since I bought this bass- I can really say that it has both the sound of a P-bass and (almost) the sound of a J-Bass, in once.

The Pickup Set Doesnt Fit A Squier Special Pewter Finish PJ Bass
rigidraider 16.05.2019
I purchased these to replace the standard pick ups in my Squire P J Standard Bass, Special, Pewter Finish from 2009. The P bass pups fit is fine, the J bass pup is slightly larger than the original, so I'm having to reshape the aperture where it should fit. The cause is probably because Fender original products are in imperial measurements and from anywhere else in the world, we use millimeters!!!
Once I have got them to fit I will give a verdict on the sound quality.
I put one star for sound as its not tested at this point.
Moving on from that preview, I used a dremmel type router to open up the aperture on the bass, fitted everything and did a sound test, superb, what a great set of pickups, I would highly recommend them, they use the Alnico 5 magnets, since then I have sold the bass, it went in no time!!!
