If you've got the money, get it
As a beginner, I've always struggled with tuning my drums. My biggest problem was the flood tom, which almost always had a very long and out-of-tune hum, which I foolishly tried to hide by adding more dampening.
To my surprise, the solution was simple. I got a set of Evans Clear reso heads, and the Evans Black Chrome set, which are in themselves much easier to tune.
I got this tuner at a whim, not knowing much about the underlying concept, but after doing some research, my life has been made a lot easier.
The tuner is very well built, it's quite heavy, which is to be expected. My expectation is that I will never need to buy another tuner for my drums again.
It's easy to use, the tension gauge works very well and is very sensitive, and it reduced my time spent tuning significantly.
I would also like to add that tuners are an absolute must have if you are doing live drum recordings, and my sound engineer was very pleased with the tone I was able to supply when I went in the studio.
Overall I would definitely recommend buying this if you can afford it. If you take care of it, then it will most likely last a lifetime.

Great helper !!
Absolutely great stuff. It really helps with pre-tuning so the only think you need is to tune drums to your taste.
One remark - it's really shame that drum head contact surface leaves tiny scratches on the heads, it doesn't look nice especially on the new heads.

Life saver for recording
I have found the drum dial to be an invaluable tool in the studio. If you have to tune vintage drums with stiff lugs then this is a godsend. There is no way to tune drums accurately if any or all the lugs require different torque (as is so ofter the case with old hardware).
With the drum dial I have managed to to get great results out of a beat up Slingerland kit and my Dyn-O-Sonic snare drum.
Expensive but worth it.

Finally my drums are in tune
I purchased this product as I was having a hard time getting my drums in tune with themselves. I understand the importance of using your ear but to have a product that can give you a great starting point ie same tension all round was a blessing. Now I can experiment more with tunings and sound and it has made tuning my drums a million times easier and less frustrating. I highly recommend this product to anyone who is new to playing drums. Can't fault this product!

Built like a tank - works well
This has to be one of the essential extras for any serious drummer. My drums now sound better and friends have asked me to tune their kits. The DrumDial helps find faults with edge bearings and dodgy heads. One of my best purchases as a drummer.

A Great Tuner for my Banjo!
Yes, you read that right! For all of you bajo pickers out there, this is by far the best way to fine tune your banjo head, or at least confirm the desired level of tightness.
I bet it works great on the type of instrument this was originally intended for and, indeed, it was of great help when my wife wanted to tune her bongos. Most importantly for me though, it finally took all the gueswork out of tuning my banjo head, and I am very grateful for that!
Although a bit pricey, I assure you it is very sturdy (feels heavy in your hands) and works straight out of the box without any tinkering necessary!

Very reliable gauge
I use this all the time for making sure heads are put on instruments evenly to get rid of the annoying wobbling sound from the resonant membrane instruments.
I first started to use this for timpanies only, but now I use it for snares, tom-toms, congas and bongos too. This little gauge helped me a lot!

Simply amazing
I used to struggle with drum tuning, but after I bought this, I can do it in minutes!
What I do, is that I first tune so that all the lugs have the same tension, and so they are in the ballpark of where they should be, then I tune them all up or down equally until I have the tuning that I want. If it still needs tweaking I do this by ear. So this will not, in my experience, necessarily simply tune your drums for you from terrible to perfect, but it will help you get there so, so much easier.
