Good strings but not my favourite.
TrEr 17.12.2019
DR makes good strings but I've never really liked their stainless steel offerings. They're far too scooped sounding for me.

So I figured I would try one of their nickel plated steel varieties. They're certainly not scooped! If anything they've got too much mids for my taste. They have this honky thing going in the mids that I'm not really a big fan of. Don't get me wrong, they're not bad strings. It's just that I could list at least 10 other nickel roundwounds I like far better so I don't see the point of buying the Sunbeams again. It was worth a try but they're not for me.

U
Great, but expensive
Uros86 16.08.2021
These strings sound great on a P-bass-type (G&L SB-2). Prominent, midrange-heavy sound, great for fingerstyle. They are more supple than regular strings, so it takes some adjustment. Once you adjust your technique, they work great.

Eventually, however, I found them too expensive for regular use. I found that the regular Ernie Ball or Daddario are good enough, and cheaper. But if you are finnicky and want supple roundwound strings, these are the ones to get. I might go back to them one day.

Maximum Mwah!
Slinger 17.05.2019
I'd never tried pressure wound strings before so the purchase of a new fretless bass seemed like a good opportunity to remedy that. It was an excellent decision.

The DR Sunbeam Tite Medium NMR-45 strings strike a great balance between flats and rounds. Bung a bit of compression on the bass and you can get maximum mwaaah; no problem, and they won't damage your fretboard.

I can definitely recommend them

In use for 1 week; will edit if something negative comes up:
- To me the Sunbeams sound very distinct from other nickel-plated strings I've used, in - I think - a good way. Sound very nice of a jazz bass. Sound good *after* being broken in a bit. They definitely feel pleasant. Cannot comment on longevity. So far very much recommended.

Just what the doctor ordered!

Great for making your modern bass, with active electronics, sound warmer and more vintage. The only strings that make EMG's sound good!

The pure nickle wrap is like cotton on your fingers, great for gigging all night.

To low output for vintage basses if you're a rocker, you need Hi-Beams for that!

But for smooth jazz with a vintage Fender they are just AMAZING!!

Best nickels ever
Anonymous 23.02.2015
Those are definitely my favourite roundwounds currently on the market. First of all, they feel great to the fingers, much smoother than SS strings and as good as any nickel-plated ones. The sound is plenty warm, but the presence of the top end is better than you get from any hex-core strings. To top it off, they last a long time for non-coated strings, and they age evenly.

DR
A good middle ground - fretless
Dermot R. 09.06.2013
Wanted something bright but not all-steel for my fretless bass. Nice bright tone when new which settles down into a nice not dull tone. Sounds great and clear with the fretless. They have a smooth feel due to the nickle, which I don't love, but it's not an issue. Worth trying out. Considering trying them on my fretted bass also.

Perfect

I have used these strings on a fender p frettless, and they make this bass sound exactly like I want it to. They add a sparkling touch, enhances the frettless' 'waaa signature sound', and are very nice in the lows.

my favorite

These are my go to strings for my old fender jazz bass. I love their sound when they get worn out so much I only change strings once every two years.
