Replaced the original bridge and neck pickups on a Ibby S6570 with the Illuminators.
Compared to the Tone Zone, the Illuminator bridge is clearer and less bottom-end heavy, but still with a body. There is still a spike in the high mids but not as much remarkable as the Tone Zone. The Illuminator is more or less in the same tonal range of the Crunch Lab, but more open, a bit more PAF-ish (and still very modern) and more balanced.
Output is high, sound is pleasantly compressed and with a lot of high-end crunch.
For progressive metal and lead-oriented work, I would probably recommend the Illuminator over the Tone Zone. Tone Zone has more instead of this 80s, 90s vibe (see Images and Words).
Tested with ENGL Smolski and Steve Morse and in both cases this pickup is killer for high-gain sounds but also for mid-gain territory.
Definitely recommended!
