Ultra-compact practice amp with on-board tape delay effect

Boss presents the Katana Mini: A highly compact but extensively equipped practice amplifier with three analogue basic sounds, a three-band EQ section, and an integrated tape delay effect that makes practising at home or on the road a luxury. It goes without saying that the Katana Mini can be operated on battery power without the need for a mains connection, and its AUX input and headphone/recording output allow backing tracks to be played from an external source and the output signal to be sent to a pair of headphones or to a home computer. However, the built-in 4" speaker and seven-watt power stage still provide enough power to make the neighbours sit up and pay attention if need be!

Three basic sounds that deliver the goods

The Boss Katana series offers a selection of excellent-sounding amp simulations, three of which have been integrated into the Katana Mini, the smallest combo in the range. Players can thus choose between a shimmering clean sound, a biting and dynamic crunch, and a singing high-gain lead sound, which are easily selectable using the mini-switch on the amp’s control panel. The Katana Mini is also child’s play to operate in every other respect: Its gain and volume controls and three-band EQ section mean that all manner of cool sounds can be dialled in with ease. With controls for delay time and level, the amp’s tape delay effect is both intuitive to operate and adds a touch of depth to the sound – also a welcome feature while practising.

A diminutive sparring partner armed with deluxe sounds

There are plenty of reasons to add a Boss Katana Mini to your desktop setup, whether it’s for practising, spontaneous jam sessions, or recording to your computer. Its three potent basic sounds, enhanced by an intuitive three-band EQ section and a great-sounding tape delay simulation, make practising with this amp a real luxury. Because it can also be operated on battery power without the need for a mains socket, the Katana Mini is also equally at home when jamming outdoors.

About Boss

The Boss brand has been an important part of the Japanese Roland Corporation since the mid-1970s and has caused a sensation from its inception, especially with its compact effect pedals but also multi-effect units and other helpful tools for guitarists. The company's single effect pedals in particular are legendary and can be found in almost every guitarist's home. An incredible 15 million have been sold to date. With its Katana series, the manufacturer now also offers excellent amplifiers at a very interesting price point.

Great sound for bedroom and hotel room

Measuring just 230 x 116 x 181 mm and weighing just one kilogramme, the Katana Mini is pretty much perfect for putting in your carry-on luggage. It is also ideal for guitarists who don’t want to be chained to a set of headphones when playing outside their own four walls. The three all-analogue sounds – Clean, Crunch, and Brown – together with the on-board delay effect deliver everything you need for extended and enjoyable jam sessions.

Boss it

As guitar player, a small practice amp is a must when a time and space was limited. Check a bunch of review on this guy, but yeah, sometimes reviewer like to exaggerating thing, so im actually 70% convince. I had to try it since its sounds good, but will i like it?. Yes, i super like it.

Pros-
-As one of reviewer says, it really is worlds biggest smaller amp.
-Speaker sounds fantastic. It really does
-Simple feature but all you needed (im a demanded guy actually, Tone knob only doesnt satisfy me, minimum must have 3-band EQ.
-That JC CLEAN, that Boss pedal CRUNCH, that saturated BROWN channel. Happy happy me.
-Its loud enough, and speaker sim does sounds great.
-Take pedals really well, even mfx unit.
-Feather weight, easy to carry around.
-The most important for me, yeah, it does handle 7-strings like a boss.

Cons-
-Plastic all around (well built though)

Basically, if you need a great practice amp. This amp is a great choice. Especially if you're seven stringers like me..For the price, its unbeatable. I've already try bunch of small practice amps mind you..

M
Amazing Practice Amp
Miguel-Rock 08.08.2018
I have heard a lot about Katana's, so I gave this guy a try when I was looking for a practice amp for a small apartment. I was a great surprise!! I could not be more happy. It has a really nice clear sound, and great volume. But what surprised me it was the overdriven sounds. For low volumes, it truly delivers a nice round warm overdriven sound, that makes you enjoy practicing. Its really simple to use, and even have some on-board effects for even more fun while playing.

Pros:
-Quality of construction: Well manufacturer, clear connections, and very robust, yet lightweight.
-The size: Very portable, fits on a drawer, an can run on batteries.
-The sound: Amazing sounds!!. I had other practice amps, and even when the clean sound are good, the overdrives are usually, well, not enjoyable . However, this one delivers a great and playable overdriven sound, at lower volumes. I have valve amps, so I am very "picky" for the overdrive sounds, and this ones delivers . Obviously in the context of a practice amp.

Cons:
- I enjoy playing so much, that I wish it would have extra effects like the bigger brothers =)

To get some context of my overdriven preferences, I like rock and heavy rock, but I am not into a really heavy overdriven sound . I had played mostly Marshall JCM. I have not use the amp with external pedals, live overdrives or other distortion, so I could not made a comment on that.

Very Basic

The katana mini is for someone who is not looking for tone, the speaker sounds horrible, this amp has a hum that can´t be removed, tested batteries and the power supply and couldn´t get rid of it, I would recommend it for a beginner or some one that travels and needs a mini amp only.

For this price 100% must have for every guitar geek
Dudi1986 04.12.2017
If you were sad before that you can't take your electric guitar with you to camping and play Master of Puppets to other campers this is solution for you :)

For me it is a toy, which plays much better than I would except from the toy of that size. I am using it mainly in my house when I want to play not in the room where my standard amp is standing (i.e. in my son's room when I am putting him to sleep, this amp is perfect for this purpose).

I gave 4 stars for quality because this amp is made 100% out of plastic; solid, hard but still plastic. I also give 4 stars for sound (if you take into account the size of the amp and how it plays than it should be 6 stars).

5 stars for features because in this size you have 3 channels and build in reverb

Perfect as a second small amp to play with during night, rosting turkey in the oven, putting your kid to sleep or simply for practicing your scales. Also if you are just starting your trip with a guitar and you are not sure if this is for you. I recommend
