Unpopular opinion - Behringer Rocks!
howlingwolf 22.04.2020
Possibly one of the best price-for-value audio product on this whole website and in general. I love this DI box and all the additional functions like 2CH and link mode, it's extremely versatile, and it does the job more than good. You can hear a big difference in sound when recording or monitoring a bass or electric guitar through your interface if you insert this DI box before your Line in and for this money you shouldn't hesitate. If you're an audio engineer, even if you have more expensive DI boxes, this can make a great emergency replacement as it's unlikely you'll have any problems. I've used this DI box for home recordings, in the studio and live concerts on big festival stages - it's trustworthy and road tested.
I have two of them so far.

Generally speaking, Behringer is capable of creating great devices, and just because they are not always as expensive as expected it doesn't mean that they are bad. If you look carefully you'll see their racks even in Abbey Road so, if you want a piece of advice, trust your ears rather than internet reviews!

Versatile little box
Roshan 06.03.2014
This little box from Behringer is a very handy addition to the home studio, mobile record rig or stage setup.

I have 2 of these and use them for live gig recordings with my mobile rig where I often don't know what I'm going to encounter until I arrive. These little boxes are very versatile and allow me to connect a wide range of instruments to my recording interface via balanced connections for best low noise performance with long cable runs.

For example, I've used them as classic DI boxes, to insert between instrument and amplifier and to simultaneously take a balanced line level output out to the interface, I've used a single unit to feed an unbalanced stereo output from a keyboard into twin balanced XLR inputs. I've used them to interface with a drum machine via the headphone output (the drum machines' main outs were broken).

They are powered via phantom power from the XLR connection or via 9V battery. You can connect instrument amplifier speaker outputs to them and use the inbuilt attenuator to match the signal. Other features include a ground lift, and the ability to use as either a twin channel single in single out DI box, or a single channel box with single in, multiple out.

Compact and lightweight, they seem rugged enough in day to day use, no issues with noise or build quality, and of course, excellent value.

To sum up, don't be put off by cheap reputation these are very versatile little tools and very competitively priced.

Handy to have in your toolbox, beware of distortion
E-Engineer 08.06.2020
I carry one around in my gig bag since it is small and versatile.
There is one attenuation knob which acts on both inputs, so I primarily use it for stereo sources such as keyboards, tablets, laptops and DJ booth.
I have had mixed results with guitar/bass, the unit distorts to easy in my opinion, forcing you to pad the input even though the signal is not that hot.
It is not as well build as the DI100 (which you can throw from the top of a building and it will still work) and you should keep it away from mains transformers.
For the price, the size and the features it is a good unit.

SC
Lots of features in a small box.
Simon Cox 15.04.2019
This DI box is great. It has all the buttons and connectors on the front which are clearly labelled. The DI box its self has very little sound colouration and would be great for most scenarios. The XLR connections are strong, but the jack connection come across as a compromise.

Con 1
The battery compartment has a screw to change the battery. This means it is kept secure. But is also a pain to change if the battery dies.
This isn't the end of the world, but means you always have to has a screwdriver handy if you need to change it.

Con 2
This DI box also doesn't like long XLR runs to it with phantom power. If you run this from phantom power, you need to have under 20 meters otherwise it won't be reliable. The power loss in the cable will mean it won't have enough power for the big transients in an audio signal.

Price Performance
mhlyak 12.03.2021
It is my 3rd ordered Behringer DI20. I am using it to run a digital piano to a mixer on stages and to USB audio interface at home for practice. Other two I am using with bass guitar and guitar on stages connected directly to the mixer. I power them with phantom and I never tried with battery. I never get any noise and the sound of direct connected instruments to the mixer is just great on the stages.

For this price range the quality is very acceptable. Maybe it is not useful for recording but for practice and on stages it is great.

Best DI for the buck!
Jack B. 26.03.2020
These things are a must for any performer or engineers toolbox.
perfect for getting you out of a pinch, 2 channel summing, earth lift and a switch so the battery isn't dead when an acoustic guitarist needs to steal it.
If you have £120 to spend on a DI box then theres others on the market but this price nothing beats them.

Just works really well.
Anonymous 04.05.2015
Not really much to say about this one, It works really well and delivers.
Used many times now and works perfectly, I personally use quite a bit of Behringer kit as I have not yet won the lottery and find it does what it says on the box. This may be a cheap piece of kit but I am struggling to see how you would get any better results from paying twice the price?
Its not bomb proof but if you treat these things right I reckon they will last for a good few years, I keep mine attached in my pedal board case so it is well protected, but if you just throw your stuff in a bag they are cheap enough to replace.

Horrible

Noisy and useless. Don't bother with it. Used once, now don't even bring it as a backup. Spend a few bucks more and get something decent.
