This is a beautifully presented piece. Reminds me of an old ROM module with 199 sounds, except its 2020 not 1985, and the sound files are almost limitless, the future looks bright. Especially with the OLED screen.
It wouldn't be a daft idea to buy six of them and have a megga sound bank.
Very impressive.

Behringer add extra DNA to the code
Enslaved.electron 30.04.2022
Well they are at it again and this time I'm glad they are ! The source code (open source ) was Plaits from MI but they added more spice to its Synthly DNA charms .I immediately hooked it up and i find its a brilliant module and has a well placed and bright Oscilloscope screen (OLED), one that I'm used to looking at on my Korg Monologue but I'm blessed with 20/20 vision , as well as the extra DNA and I really find it mesmerising just watching those peaks and troughs ' dance like the shadows from fire on the cavemans wall ,it's a serious module for all 'and I'm sure even the naysayers will warm to its charms in time. The buttons and nobs are even and well spaced the smaller gain ones under Timbre, Frequency (FM) and Morph are shallower than its bigger brothers so be prepared to pinch they feel rock solid and speak to the longevity intended as well so the quality is there, but that one gripe is all I have ,I find the rest quite novel and I could play with it all day the speech setting has me laughing for ages and I can be Hawkins whenever I feel the need to break some theoretical waveforms and bring them forth into my holographic reality and it really works hard to keep you entertained and I'm sure with the USB hookup present and face front will endulge us with many an update I'm sure and im glad Behringer went with it rather than over the 3.1mm audio interface no faffing definitely quicker I'm sure, hook it up to the Sequencer and step it up a level, lol, you can't miss seriously and I'm glad they have made it beginner friendly and sensibly low key (I expected at least one blinking LED per nob) that way you can concentrate on your waves and beats and more modules circulate the quicker our poor eurorack pockets can get a price break and pair it with a clouds patch in your kick and snare and your guaranteed to get some ambient bliss at least so what more can I say? it's a win win and companies like Korg known for their boutique Volca range need to take note (I'd love to see a eurorack version of Sample and Drum) and costs less than a night out at the arcade and cinema with your mates or if your the older ilk a night at the pub followed by takeaway vindaloo, I wish I had more space and more time but I say if it has you curious you have to buy one and don't look back Behringer are a relatively new company compared to the aforementioned Korg, Roland, Yamaha you know they are still finding their feet and I'm sure have lots more in store , checkout their Facebook page, Give your pocket a break, I can think of at least four modules I can replace or don't need to buy now I have it ,and grab one with the oscilloscope added more value for money and a worthy and welcoming addition to my rack .
Verdict :- no brainer ☆☆☆☆☆

I played this BRAINS with some fava beans and a nice Chianti

The Behringer Brains module is an impressive and budget-friendly option for Eurorack enthusiasts, especially those looking to explore a wide variety of synthesis methods without breaking the bank. Its minor flaws are outweighed by its versatility and value for money, making it a solid choice for both beginners and experienced users looking to enhance their modular setup.

Easy, Simple (too simple), and just for the amazing new algorithms FM/303 it REALLY is an addition for expanding your sound palette! FM rules! Brains is our friend!

God damn...
Lilith 12.04.2023
I got this way before any of my other modules. And being impatient sob I plugged it into my interface and throw a bit of reverb and delay on top for good measure. I've been playing with just this unit straight to my interface for 4 days now and I'm still finding interesting, creepy, beautiful, brutal, weird (and every other adjective there is) sounds. For example the first engine on bank B, If you set the knobs just right, you get a somehow seemingly selfmodulating creepy landscape. Doesn't seem to loop either. And at points sounds polyphonic even. Something ringmodulatoresque but not quite :D.

Long story, bad story.
It already knocks most of my preowned hardware synths out of the race. And that's just one module.

PS, do the firmware update, adds a third bank worth the hassle ;)

My only complaint with Brains is the size. I wish it were a little smaller (or maybe I need to buy a bigger rack)

You’d be better off with a Plaits clone
Rory the Border 04.02.2024
Useful multi-VCO, but the lay-out of the knobs is a bit bizarre, and the screen is unnecessary- it’s not actually an oscilloscope, and the module could have been 4hp smaller without it. You would be better off with an actual MI Plaits, or even a clone (which this is NOT) as they can come as small as 6hp (the Antumbra Knit for example) and look much more stylish (Calsynth’s uPlaits say). And I have other Behringer gear, so it’s not simply the manufacturer…

Faulty, erratic "Model" input. If you want more than one mode at a time out of your Plaits, get a Plaits.

If you want a value for money module for eurorack this is the one to buy. Like all the Caria lines of the original this has all the features and more. Especially once you update the firmware. Decent sized unit without losing too much HP in your rack. A whole host of sounds from the unit. Even just using it standalone it sounds great. the screen is small but a useful addition.
